DEMIG receives an ERC Starting Grant

The five-year Democracy-Migration Paradox project will examine the tension between democratic commitment and anti-immigrant attitudes.

The Democracy-Migration Paradox project, led by Assoc. Prof. M. Tahir Kılavuz at Sabancı University, has been selected for funding under the European Research Council’s 2025 Starting Grant call.

Over five years, DEMIG will investigate the tension between democratic commitment and anti-immigrant attitudes. The project will combine survey research, experimental methods, and AI-assisted approaches to examine how citizens understand and apply democratic principles in the context of migration.

The project runs from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2031, has been awarded €1,499,812, and is hosted by Sabancı University. Its grant agreement number is 101220774 and its project DOI is 10.3030/101220774.
